Wont start

i have just purchased my second car, vw polo 1.9 cl deisel, yesterday whilst driving, all electrics went, i pulled up, turned off ignition then turned ign back on, all elec on exept now my car wont start & the driver side window (electric) now will not close, even though it was fine before looseing everything.
any ideas would be greatfully welcomed
(i've had the car 1 week & everything was a ok before now)

maybe the ignition switch got stuck then kept the starter engaged and burnt it out.the switches can play up on these

sorry guys my dad writ that question,

basically ibought it in manchester drove it home to cornwall got to fraddon for a break on leaving fradon had to do a hill start and it concked out got it started every time i ch chaned down gear whilst slowing it concked ottill finaly would start no more gage still registers fuel oil can light is on it turning over but wont fire maybe it the fuel gage any help would be apreciated

My Polo Classic 1600 2003 model cut out last night during a heavy rain storm. it would not restart. The engine turns over well, but just wont start. The battery is strong and the petrol tank is full. I waited overnight and still the engine turns over strongly but just won;t start. Any ideas, please?
