Something seriously wrong with that amount of bets in that short length of time . The smell of rubber would be belt slipping .Could be alternator , is there any noise or wear on bearing ? Are you adjusting belt tight enough when fitting ? Any wear on pulleys and is belt running true ?

That " scream " you're getting is the belt slipping . Are you adjusting it tight enough on fitting ?
