2002 Volkswagen Polo ignition - car will not start

Car: Volkswagen Polo
Year: 2002
Variant: 1,4 S Auto
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Using ignition key, the car will almost start but spark plugs do not seem to fire. The handbook suggests checking electric fuel pump fuse but unable to locate this fuse. Have accessed one set of fuses on right hand panel of driver's side. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
