1996 Volkswagen Polo car has a lack of power through the gears, what can that be a cause of?

When going from idle the car has a reduction in power, ive noticed this because before even though not a quick car it was a bit nippy but now it has lost all of it, And i dont know what it may be. The exhaust has been changed and checked, and the a has just had a new cambelt. But still nothing.

If the lack of power started after cambelt replacement ,you would be better to get the timing rechecked as if incorrectly set up it would cause this prob.

hiya jaeyK i had a problem what sounds the same .so i cleaned the mass air sensor and it works magic now.
