1985 Volkswagen Polo windscreen wiper not working

on xmas eve when it was icy i tried to use the windscreen wipers. the driver side was stuck to the windscreen and now it wont work at all!! any ideas why???

try the fuses it may have blown when they stuck to the screen

I would emagine the nut holding down the wiper arm has come loose allowing the wheel box to work without operating the arm, simply realign and tighten the nut.

my polo doesn't have a handbook so i don't know which fuse may help my wiper problem any ideas???
