My Polo disel has a few problems, can anyone out there help? Loud whistling kind of noise on acceleration, noisy gearbox / clutch area, like something is loose, almost impossible to engage 4th gear but other gears fine when driving , at standstill with engine off all gears appear to engage o.k. Have adjusted clutch cable and changed oil in gearbox but still the same.

Hard to diagnose without testing car , but a common fault was rivets on dif . unit shearing causing transmission fault .Hope it's not that ,possibly clutch bearing ?? This shows the dif. rivets which shear .
