1996 Volkswagen Polo juddering when on and off the accelator

Hello all
I have had this problem for a while but I would realy like to get round to fixing it.
When i am in gear and accelerate the slightest ammount I can noticaby feel a judder in the driving. It is noticable In any gear but especialy the lower gear. I can feel it just as much when I ease off the acceleraton. I can feel the gear stick judder in my hand when this happens.
I am pretty sure it's not my driving style as I'm a pretty relaxed driver. I have also noticed that my car is genral using more petrol than it ever has after I just go a whole new exhaust system fitted but I'm pretty sure they are not related
Any helpwould be appriciated

Sounds like engine misfire ,could check plugs , plug leads , dist. cap etc.. Almost sure that year doesn't have coil packs .Misfire will cause slight hesitantcy and then clear .

Well I have recently had all sparks, leads, distridutor cap replaced. The sparks are about 5 months old but the leads and cap and head are only 2 months at most. Woul they still be the cause?
The car does idel up and down some times not erraticaly but more of a gental purr. I have tryed to fix that by doing the run the car for 10seconds then turn it off again to reset something. Well that's what another forum said to do and it worked pretty well from the erratic ideling it was previously doing.

make sure you have no vaccumm hoses split that come off the inlet manifold one is quite big in diameter and goes soft and collapses with age

you should get your gearbox mountings checked as if they are us this would give bad judder
