The engine management warning ligh keeps coming on and staying on. I want to use the scanner I have to identify the problem but cannot find the socket! Hopeless or what?

On 2001 , I am almost sure it was behind ash tray.Don't know if yours is different , hope it is same .

it is either by drivers knees on trim panel or behind fuse panel on lefthans side as you look into opening
