2000 Volkswagen Polo cuts out when slowing down / turning/ reversing , even worse with air cond on.

Engine cuts out when slowing down, (dangerous as power steering fails). Has also cut out when reversing and when on the move turning wheel to hard lock. Engine thankfully re-starts immediately. Engine always starts in the morning first time. However, engine cut out today on a roundabout and had to start engine while trying to turn wheel at same time - nearly hit cyclist. I feel car is too dangerous to use . In addition the air conditioning slows the car down noticeably. PLEASE HELP.

howdy, first of all have a look at your throttle body, this me require cleaned and reset. However it is not unknown for this engine code to suffer valve trouble causing a lack of compression so be warned this may not be a cheap fix

rfraser - many thanks. I removed the throttle body, it was filthy with layers of carbon build up. In addition the car was fitted with the wrong spark plugs ! The car appears to be running much better. Thanks.
