2004 Volkswagen Polo indicator lights not working but are clicking on the dash but faster the usual hazards not working either

All indicator bulbs have stopped flashing but the dashboard lights are flashing but faster than usual.
When the hazard warning light is engaged it is reflected on the dash but again nothing flashing from any of the indicator bulbs
I have installed a new hazard light relay but still the problem is the same.
Any ideas of the cause?

Try replacing indicator relay / flasher unit .
