Oil warning light

I have a( VW POLO 98 AUTO 1.6 ltr) the problem is when driving the oil warning light starts flashing but if i switch of the engine and wait a short while and start it again im able to drive a bit then it starts flashing again when this happens there is also a sound coming from the side of the engine but this is only when the light is flashing this is regardless the engine been hot or cold.and could anyone tell me where the oil pressure sensor is located thanks

Take it there,s plenty of oil in the engine and it,s in good condition,sound,s like oil starvation possibly oil pump issue,not 100% on where your switch is but normally on the block.

Sounds like lack of pressure especially with engine rattle / sound , usually down to general wear on older engines .But could try a switch .

Thanks for the responses i opened the sump and found the gauze to be fairly clogged cleaned it out and the problem seems to have stopped so guess it was oil starvation.

Should have mentioned the oil pump pick up strainer / filter , quite common on many makes and cause of restricted oil flow .Good if that fixes car , thanks for update .
