My mother has an intermitent starting problem the engine will turn over put not fire. this happens about 20% of the time. She had the alarm de-activated about 1 year ago and she says the problem has only occured since then, could it be an immoboliser causing problems

May just be a coincedence . Common cause on that car is the engine coolant temp sensor which lets the ECU know how much fuel to supply on start up .Simple to replace and cheap to buy .Could also check or replace spark plugs .If still having problems it's worth checking compressions on that year of car .
