Rear shocks

hi i put two new rear shocks in there is a groove in the shocks and there was a light ring clip in it but now the clip has broke and the shocks come up throgh the boot should i put a circlip in the groove of the shock absorber

From memory I think that,s what secures your top mount to the shocker on those vehicles.
