1997 Volkswagen Polo front side lights not working when engine off? failed mot?

My car failed its mot because the side lights at the front are not working when the engine is off, no idea what to look for or how to fix, please help?

Are the sidelight bulbs blown,if not are they getting power?

the side lights work fine when ignition is running!

They can be independently fused so if you check all fuses first,also some models work through a dim dip relay which could be at fault.I would only ask that you check the basics .Is there power there at the side lights to start with and you could also check the switch for power and operation .More testing would require a wiring diagram and multimeter.Do the rear work,?Any further checks really req,a tech.to do as trying to explain it will take longer than to physically fix it.
