2000 Volkswagen Polo car not starting

Car cut out on freeway, cranks fine and fires up to 500 rpm then dies, with white smoke out intake.
Removed egr valve and it fired up and runs rough loss of power. push egr valve back into place and car idles like it going to stall, egr valve moves back and forth.
Tried to block egr valve but sames problem occurs .
Any help wanted

Have you listened to engine with key turned?, checked fuel pump/filter?, check all hoses and wires are properly connected and try again, if you manage to run it see if it revs high but loses speed almost always tends to be top end seizure if that's the case!

start by renewing your fuel filter, and check fuel flow to injectors
