Temperature Gauge

2002 Volkswagen Polo 1.4 16 valve
Car: Volkswagen Polo
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.4 16 valve
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Recently driving for 50 miles, I noticed the temperature gauge normally at 90° C or midway, drops to around the 75° C then 10 minutes later reverts back to the normal 90° C

It appeared to do this several times during the journey.

Could be a sticking thermostat or just the fan kicking in .Check coolant level , and also connection at temp transmitter switch .
