2006 Volkswagen Passat clutch pedal has nothing there

Year: 2006
Variant: 1.9 TDI

I was just setting off as i changed from 1st to 2nd there was a bang and the clutch went dead the car is now stuck in neutral. Any help as to the cause would be good.

If you can get gears with engine off , sounds like DMF ( dual mass flywheel ) knackered or clutch diaphram / cover assembly collapsed .

If the clutch is cable operated, the cable could have snapped.

has anyone ever heard of the master or slave cylinder breaking and causing this problem ?????
