2007 Volkswagen Passat engine starts and then cuts out

When I start the engine, it starts up and then cuts out staright away, the engine fault light comes on. If I leave it for a minute or 2, start it again, it is fine? Sometimes the steering column warning light and the parking brake fault light also come on, again, if it is left a minute or 2, it will start with no problem.

Best bet would to get it scanned and see what fault codes are shown .
