2001 Volkswagen Passat lack of power

Car: Volkswagen Passat
Year: 2001
Variant: 2.5 v6 tdi
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
hi i have a v6 tdi passat and have a lack of power. i broke down and was told it was my diesel lift pump which was replaced, but then had problems starting it which seemed to overcome itself. i then took it to a garage and they plugged it into a diagnostics which showed faults of where i had fitted the new pump which were cleared and no more showed, but couldn understand why it had a lack of power. the air mass flow sensor wasnt reading the correct amount of air , so we disconnected it and it seemed to pick up but not as it should be normally. so i ordered a second hand one and it is reading exactly the same as my other one. does anybody please have any idea or advice in which way to go , as i feel that i am p*****g in the wind

Remove turbo pipe and see if you get any blow from the turbo. Are there any engine management lights on?
Check vac pipes to boost sensor
Check wastegate isn't stuck

The turbo pipe comes from the turbo charger - fitted on the exhaust manifold, and goes to the intercooler, remove it (usually held on by a hose clip) check the pipe for any excess amount of oil, if it's passing excess amount of oil or the turbo has actually blown - the intercooler will be full also and will require steam cleaning out or even replacing otherwise the engine will run away using it's own oil causing your engine to rev so high it will blow. Check to see if there is any radial or axial movement in the turbo spindle, or if the turbo is actually seized. (do all this with the engine off of course)!

Run the motor, check to see if you get any pressure from the turbo.
If you have a wastegate fitted it should be situated next to the turbo usually a piece of linkage coming from a vac body, check to see if it is stuck.

On the other hand I could be totally wrong and it could have nothing at all to do with your turbo system, maybe you should ask someone who knows wqhat they are talking about.
