2000 Volkswagen Passat reving engine

Car: Volkswagen Passat
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.8L Turbo Sport
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hey,

I'm having problems with my passat it seems when its when the engine is cold or has not been out for like 2 hours after a trip it starts to revs by itself. I watch the revs and it slowly drops down under the 1000 line and the engine then revs to get it above agian. Its almost like the engine is reving to stop itself from stalling.

Any suggestions? could this be a air circulation problem?

Many Thanks In Advance

could be a vacume leak or dirty throttle body hopes this helps you out.

Hi,

this sounds like a typical fault with the engine idle control valve. Probably needs cleaning out with some carburettor cleaner...
