Hi everyone.

Got a Passat 1.9TDi on a 2002 plate. Every time you turn the igntion on the 'check oil level' light comes on and also the oil light stays orange.

I have check oil level, there is a earth, live and signal feed to the oil level sensor, i tried a sensor out of another car, no different.

There are a few past posts on here about the bonnet switch causing the fault. I assume it is the micro switch on the catch. I have check for a feed to the switch, there is an earth but no live, should there be or does the system work by sensing for a earth? Also if the switch was faulty shouldn't the bonnet open warning message come on?

The temperature gauge does not always work as well but i haven't looked into that yet but i am wondering if they are connected.

One other thing, this car suffered from water in the passenger footwell syndrome last year, i think it is the body control unit under the carpet at that side, it was under water but there where no faults at that time, is it that controller responsible for the oil light?

Got this fixed.

The bonnet switch should have a live feed to it, which it didn't.

Traced the wire back into the passenger foot well where there are about 7 block connectors.

All the connectors have had water in them, all cleaned up ok with contact cleaner with the exception of one block connector (bonnet switch connector), had to cut the connector out and replace all the connections in that block.

Problem solved

Thanks for putting me in the direction of the bonnet switch, it was a big help.
