2002 Volkswagen Passat hatch lock

I'm having problems with the rear hatch (or boot)It wont open when i unlock the car if i use the lever inside the car you hear it pop open but not enough to open it up so as i bang it with the palm of my hand to try and close it sort of clicks then you can open it can you help please

I would guess the spring has broken in the catch essy hence causing in to stick, you could try lube first or simply dissasemble and inspect, they are easy to do.
