2014 Volkswagen Passat tailgate open warning sets alarm off

The tailgate open warning light comes on intermittently both driving and stationary causing the interior lights to come on and when locked the alarm goes off. This has got more and more frequent so that I have had to disconnect the battery when parked.

On some Passats there was problems with water from the washer jet or water ingress getting to the micro switch which is part of the boot lock causing this fault .

That would make sense, yesterday I used the rear screen wash for the first time in months. I'll investigate and let you know if drying it out works, thank you for the heads up, at least I have somewhere to look. I guess I have to take the door card off to access it?
