2005 Volkswagen Passat blower motor not working on setting 0-3 but working on setting 4

Car: Volkswagen Passat
Year: 2005
My car was fine until yesterday when suddenly blower motor stopped working on setting 0-3 but on setting 4 it is working fine. I have checked all fuses but they look ok, I dont know whether I need to change them anyway or not.

faulty rheostat. this is the resistor that governs the fan speed. these are the cause of these problems on all cars about 95% of the time. on removal you will probably notice that it is corroded and will smell burnt. try that!!! hope this helps!!

Depending on whether or not its climatronic control, it could be air flap positioning motor. I believe costs 70 plus VAT in VW dealerships however they charge for 6-7 hours labour for fitting. Best advice is to get a diagnostic test. AirCon is electrical and best diagnosed that way
