Misfire

2000 Volkswagen Passat 1.8t se
Car: Volkswagen Passat
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.8t se
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
The car is fitted with the APU petrol engine. Had new head gasket, plugs, coil packs and rocker gasket. When on tick over it hunts slightly but when you go to pull away it tries to stall until revved to around 2500rpm. It will then drive but misfires quite badly. The misfire gets less noticeable the faster you drive.
Does anyone have an idea on what may be causing this?... Thanks

I'd be looking for a vacuum leak,
somewhere that lets unmetered air in "AFTER" the Air flow meter.
And with this engine I usually end up removing the inlet manifold,
the crankcase breather and associated piping is where I find the faults.
and because of it's location it's seldom checked.
hence inlet removal.
And a good time to remove all inlet hoses and eyeball all of them and hose clips.
Crank oil mist can soften and distort the inlet ducting material.

Might be worthwhile double checking timing set up correctly .

Thanks for the advice guys. I was hoping it weren't a more mechanical prob like a sticking valve or maybe a head gasket blow by.
