returned home no problem but noticed this morning front very low
nearly on tyres.

Time fora close inspection of the coil springs
all it takes is one coil to snap off and you car looks like the teenagers want it to look!.
Quite possible for both sides to go at the same time,
or one was already gone and it became more obvious when the other went.

Broken coil springs VERY common on that car , one of my mates just replaced his .N/s was broken , but replaced o/s also as car was due MOT and to keep it balanced .
