Fuel problem

2001 Volkswagen Passat 2.0 petrol
Car: Volkswagen Passat
Year: 2001
Variant: 2.0 petrol
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
i have a 2001 vw passat its fine except sometimes if i brake hard or if i go round a corner fast it will cut out and then is very hard to restart as if its run out of fuel (even tho it has a full tank) when i do get it started it will keep cutting out every time i slow down again unless i leave it for a few mins with the engine off or i top it up with fuel and then its fine.
also the gague in the car seems to be wrong because the tank seems to be completly empty even befor the fuel light has come on and the it still says i have around 80 miles of fuel left.
im thinking it may be some sort of air lock? any help would be great thanks

Sounds like you have a faulty fuel tank unit giving incorrect reading .If you have been running it low on fuel may be a partial blockage in the pump fuel filter

Why not substitute a clear fuel hose so that you can see for certain that fuel, which it sounds like,is the issue.
