2006 Volkswagen Jetta fan on constantly

on my 06 jetta the fan comes on almost straight away. the engine isnt overheating,it stays at normal yet the fan always comes on. car got new water pump 5000miles ago. is this a serous problem,, will it harm the car or fuel economy??

Try replacing the temp sensor on the side of the radiator...
