I have a Golf 1.6, 2002 and have a problem with starting.
Car takes 3 to 5 attempts to start and when it eventually starts it smells of petrol. It runs ok but sometimes it seems to be when it stood for long period of times. Once it wouldn't start after just 2 hours after driving. I have had the diagnostic done but nothing came up. Had the temperature switch changed too but still have problems.

couple of things, be sure to start without pressing the accellerator (yeh i know sorry)if no fault codes are coming up its possible you may have a vac leak somewhere or again the airflow meter can fault without codes.
