2000 Volkswagen Golf boot open light on but boot is closed

the boot open light on my dash is lit even though the boot is definatley closed, but the words luggage compartment open and the error tone dont sound, also the interior light and reading lights are no longer working

Check fuses first for interior lights .On a lot of cars the switch is part of boot lock , but worth pulling off trim and checking for water /damp or spraying with WD 40.
