1999 Volkswagen Golf door locking mechanism

driver's door can't be opened. it seems locking mechanism is damaged. not possible to open door and door panel can't be removed to get access.panel can be opened slightly, and access is limited. don't seem to know what to do to release catch to open door and replace any damaged parts. is there any way door can be removed/open

If you cant get door trim off and lock isnt shielded , you can try getting wire down into door between glass and try and hook onto mechanism / rod to release lock .
