1997 Volkswagen Golf engine is loud like a disel?

hi first of all its very cold here i do alot of short trips and my engien sound like a disel
but when ti heats up to normal temp it doesnt what does this mean i just got the car another a month ago i only drove it a 100 miles and have fully modded the car and now i noticed this?
i am having a oil change today to fully sen with engine flush and engine restore to see if it helps becuase the engine has alot of sludge so does the crankcase breather
and im not losing coolant
petrol is normal
is it something bad?
or is it just becuase its a old engine

Usually caused by oil not circulating , due to lack of pressure for whatever reason . Could be wear on engine , but see what happens after oil/filter , engine flush and engine breather cleaned.
