1997 Volkswagen Golf car won't start

Car: Volkswagen Golf
Year: 1997
Variant: 1.6CL
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Car was starting fine now all I get is a loud click when turning the ignition key engine does not turn over its just a loud click. Lights work, dash lights work and the car starts with a bump.

Have tried rocking the car in various gears, tried hitting the starter motor, inspected the dizzy/rotor (rotor will need to be replaced as it has slight melting under the brass bit)Tried a bump start and it started turned the ignition off again and tried starting it = same problem.

Please help if you can as I need the car to get to work and I'm already missing it

I would be looking to change the starter motor, sounds like a solonoid fault. Have a good look at the terminals/connections, make sure they are VERY clean before purchasing a new starter. hope this helps.
