1994 Volkswagen Golf drinks water like a fish

Got the car just under a year ago and been a great little runner but looking back I can see that its slowly but steadily taken shorter and shorter periods of time for the red water light to flash up on the dash. I literally filled it up a couple of days ago but after a short trip yesterday it was flashing and empty again. Oil's completely black and fine, No obvious leaks and never any puddles under car. Can anyone help?

if water is not leaking under car and it is still using water you need a block test this will check the head gasget for leaks

A pressure test will show any external leaks and a sniff test will tell if cyl head or gasket is leaking .Simple tests for the garage to carry out.The longer you drive in this condition , the more damage you will do . Could be something simple to rectify .
