this is a intermittent fault,sometimes when i go to start the car,it starts then cuts out immediately.after a couple of attempts the car will start normally.

I had a similar problem with the starting of my tdi. also i found that every now and then it would cut out when i let it coast. The problem turned out to be my engine management relay (no. 93 on mine but not sure what it would be for a GTI) when i put a new relay in its worked perfectly since. The management relay is found underneath the steering wheel and costs about £17 from vw. Hope this helps
