2007 Volkswagen Golf drivers door electrics not working

We had an issue with the drivers door in that you had to close it twice or so for the electrics to engage and work, no problem just one of those pains you put up with. However, MOT time and the garage didn't know this trick and of course explored why the door wasn't working properly. No biggie but they weren't auto elecricians and have nitride D it and in fact now made it worse, as the doors electrics don't work at all now. Our problem now is we can't use the door for anything I giving electrics, Windows, door locking and the big problem we can't open the petrol cap for fuel!!
I spoke to the nearest VW dealership who said I can take the electric motor out located in the boot and this will release the pin in the fuel cap . . I haven't got a clue how to do this . . . Surely before I attempt this there has to be a resolution with the initial problem? Whatever that was lol?

I rang the VW dealership again and was advised I could disconnect the battery which would then reset the circuits etc . . This has got me back to our original position however the closing of the door doesn't work . . So I can use the drivers window but nothing else, it's as though the door has connected to the electric circuits etc for the rest of the car . . . Also she's on the dash that there's a door open or ajar which isn't the case, not sure if that helps anyone?

Usually caused by the micro switch on door lock assembly inside door sticking . Sometimes spraying with WD 40 is enough to free off or banging door on outside with heel of hand can also work . ( that's probably why banging door twice worked ) If not , may mean new lock assembly .
