1997 Volkswagen Golf temperature light

when i started my car this morning my temperature light started flashing but the car never overheated, i checked my water and the level was ok,i stopped at a petrol garage for a couple of minutes and now the light stopped flashing,any help please!!

If all is well I'd assume it was just a gremlin, does the warning light come on if you disconnect the temperature switch?
That could mean a bad connection or possible break in the wire coming soon.
Otherwise I would just keep an eye on it . if it does it again change the sender unit and check thermostat.
Only way to tell if you have hot spots in your engine due to to low circulation with a waterpump is with a laser pointer thermometer.
To see if any parts of the engine is getting hot.

But tbh I'd think there is no issue with the engine. More likely a glitch

it could be the level sensor if you have one. the temp would have risen by the time you reached the garage so the coolant level would be higher due to thermal expansion.
