2005 Volkswagen Golf shudder when idle

Has it done many miles? I own a focus diesel which has a lumpy idle like its going to break down. Even the to smallest throttle increase and the lumps dissapear, I put this down to nearly 200k and wear in the fuel pump @ the idle position, any other position and it goes like stink, mine also pulls on its own sometimes more so when its cold again reminds me of the engines governers just thinking its going to stall and increases revs automatically, a juddering on some golf diesels I have worked on, was down to a worn rear gearbox mount
