2000 Volkswagen Golf juddering, grinding and blue smoke

At first the car juddered in 1st & 2nd gear but seemed to correct itself after a minute.
A week later the car judders in 1st & 2nd gear, pops out of 3rd gear and won't go into 4th gear. I can hear a grinding noise sounds like metal on metal but also a whining noise too.
Blue black smoke was coming from the exhaust along with some liquid.
The car has been well looked after and hope it will be worth fixing, any advice will be appreciated before I take it to a garage.

id say its the clutch get it replaced asap and the blue smoke is your engine boiling oil.
