2007 Volkswagen Fox engine warning light illuminates when i exceed 2500 revs

When I exceed 2500 revs in any gear the engine warning light illuminates( flashing initially and then on constantly) resulting in the engine going into idle mode
After turning ignition off and then back on the engine runs as normal until 2500 revs is reached and the cycle starts again
Fitted new fuel filter to no effect
Any ideas?????

Could be a pencil coil pack breaking down , very common .If not that ,unless you get it scanned , cant say for certain .
