only about 3 ins of room between the console and the bulkhead so taking the little panel off doesn't help, do I need to remove the centre console and if so how.

Step-by-Step Adjustment Procedure
Access the Adjuster: Remove the plastic trim/ashtray behind the handbrake lever in the center console.
Ensure Proper Setup: Ensure the handbrake is fully released. Before tightening, it is recommended to pump the foot brake pedal several times to set the rear calipers.
Tighten the Cables: Locate the two 10mm nut(s) on the threaded rod. Tighten the nut clockwise to increase tension.
Check Tension: Tighten until the handbrake engages fully in 3 to 5 clicks.
Verify Free Movement: Lift the rear of the vehicle and ensure the rear wheels rotate freely when the handbrake is off. If they drag, loosen the nut slightly.
Caliper Check: Ensure the lever on the rear brake calipers rests against its stop when the handbrake is released. A 1-3mm gap is ideal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ee7C82u90g&t=130s
