All forward gears are fine won't go into reverse

Put it into reverse but nothing happens reverse light comes on

Seems you may have a problem with the gear linkage / cable . You need to get someone to move the gear stick in/ out of reverse whilst you check under bonnet at gear box to see if any wear or problems with moving into reverse . Could also be wear on reverse selector inside .
