Suddenly stopped when trying to part with no transmission .. had lifted to local garage .. came up with electronic faults on 5th and 6th gear .. sent mechatronic unit away and said bit worn but not faulty but since it was only £100 more to have rebuilt had that done but still not working .. same problem still says electric and garage now say send gearbox away! We have not got bottomless pit and gearbox is not electronic .. if you know something that it could be that would be great like a fuse etc lol We only purchased to help disabled in village and nearly had for a year but only used 3 months and now this

You need to get it scanned with the likes of VAGCOM scan tool and VCDS Software or similar as some other scan tools are not capable of reading all the modules .
This will retrieve the fault codes which will tell you if it is electrical or internal and you can then get an estimate for costs . This should prevent you from getting further costs for repairs wrongly diagnosed as mechatronic unit you mention
