2003 Volkswagen Beetle sill damage due to speed humps

Whenever my cabriolet goes over high speed humps I get 'scraping' noise. I always drive over in 1st gear.
Recently the sill got badly dented and paint flaking off.
Getting underneath checked to see if other damage.
Is there a way I can go over high speed bumps to stop further damage?
Wonder how I can find out how much damage is caused to beetles with high speed humps?

To my understanding Speed humps are limited in the size they can be and cars have to have a minimum ground clearance to be road legal. Looks like a tape measure job!
