2003 Volkswagen Beetle vw cabriolet door hinge bolts sheared

Door hinge bolts sheared (driver) and require new hinge.
Was told that with size of door and weight (cabriolet) that if wind catches it, then it causes 'cracks' in the bolts and eventually they do shear.
Wind did catch door a few months ago and I did hear a 'crack' at the time.
Anyone else with beetle had this problem?
