2003 Volkswagen Beetle lack of power

Hi Folks
Looking for assistance transporter 2.5tdi 5 cyl lats 2 days power has dropped substantially definetely something wrong, problem just appeared yesterday.
Sounds when revving as if it only has 50% of rev range (as if choked), have 2 go down gear box to 2nd on steep hills, and when pushing on to get up hill blows out black smoke.
? air flow meter, ? turbo ? fuel problem ? E G R valve ? exhaust gas sensor. Various options but how to identify the right one can anyone assist.

Impossible to say , process of elimination or get it scanned and see what shows .
