Engine dies

2000 Vauxhall Tigra 1.6 Chequers
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 Chequers
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Car died and wouldn't start. Garage said new crank sensor and coil pack £130. Paid it and car ran for approx 1/2 day. Back to garage, had it a week, kept saying it was fixed then I'd get it back and same thing happened. Back to garage said it needed new wire? Replaced it then wanted to charge me £125. Had a heated discussion about what payment was for then went to pick it up - it started then wouldn't start! Now saying it needs complete wiring loom. I wont pay and garage wont give me my car...any ideas??

Try an ICV idle control valve) Not cheap but worth a go

Suggestion above " Try an ICV idle control valve) Not cheap but worth a go " would not cause car not to start . Did they do a diagnostic scan on car ? or were they just trying parts ? There was problems with some engine management wiring harnesses from the ECU on Vx cars .Also few suggestions here on possible causes for similar fault from another site .

Hi, just a quick read of the issues related to the problems you are having with your vehicle. We are fuel injection specialist with a BEng in electronics and mechanical engineering with years of experience in the motor sports industry and I have to say, more than 50% of vehicles we work on are Vauxhalls. I'll give you a run down on what you need to be looking at:

1) The ECU is mounted in the engine bay. It's a very harsh environment for a control system to be fitted. There is also various frequency of vibrations acting on the ECU. We have come across ECU's failing due to these factors. The ECT circuit and idle system circuit is common to fail in the ECU.

2) The EGR control system on Vauxhalls is prone for problems. Best thing to do is to install a blanking plate and have Vauxhall to reflash the ECU to eliminate EGR control software.

3) Check and clean the throttle body. Check for any vacuum leaks around the intake side. Carbon deposits around the butterfly valve is known to cause problems.

4) EVAP purge valve can cause this problem too.

You need to have the vehicle plugged into a good diagnostics scanner and the live data read by a competent person who knows what they are looking for.

Next step would be to check the wiring loom for damage and all plugs and connectors checked.

The list is endless but don't forget.....anything is fixable by the right person.

Might help you .
