2000 Vauxhall Tigra not starting very well

Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4li
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
I have recently bought a 2000 vauxhall tigra 1.4 which runs fine but first start of the day never seems to be very good as it turns over quite a while and i have been pumping the accelerator to try and catch it which results in a smell of petrol,I have changed plugs abd leads but without success.it usually starts quite well afterwards. Can anyone suggest a possible cause please?

coolant temp sensor is quite a common fault on these as well as idle control valves which can get clogged up,most of the time you can remove and clean out
