Rattles when I accelerate

1997 Vauxhall Tigra 1.6 Marine
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 1997
Variant: 1.6 Marine
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi
I have had my 97 tigra for a few months now, no major problems apart from the engine light (this seems to come as standard!?!)
Drove the car home tonight and it made a loud rattling noise when I accelerated..... Seemed to be fine with very gentle acceleration or accelerating past 30mph but just noisy between 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears? The clutch is a little tempamental but other than that the car has been fine up until now. Is there a chance I have picked up a stone or what else is it likely to be?
Please help I dont want to be fleeced by the garage for something small!

Best to get it checked out in case it develops into something major . Impossible to say what rattle is without hearing but with light on also not advisable to ignore any longer .
