Only Running on 3 Cylinders!

2000 Vauxhall Tigra 1.4 Coup'e Petrol.
Car: Vauxhall Tigra
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4 Coup'e Petrol.
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
First tigra i have owned, had it for about 3-4 months, took it for a routine MOT and failed due to emmisions. I was told that it could be valve problems, or piston as number 1 compression was low - not firing. Can you suggest anything/provide any help please
Thanks!

If not firing on 4 , first thing I would check is plugs and coil pack .If only going on 3 cyls. surprised you didn't notice how rough it was ? Might be worth getting a second opinion to verify ,also other possible causes.

firstly have a compression test done just to eliminate the rings and head gasket but also have the coil and leads and the plugs checked before you have any thing like gaskets replaced as that will be costly and may not cure the fault have these other things checked first before you have any engine work done

First suspect either a] valves or b] worn rings; also check the coil pack first!
